Inositol
| Prevents Hair Loss |
What is the
importance of
Inositol ?
|
Inositol is a member of
the vitamin B family. It
is a crystalline
compound which has a
sweet taste. It is
highly soluble in water,
and is not destroyed by
heat in neutral, acid,
and alkaline mediums. It
is, however, destroyed
by sulphur drugs,
food-processing
techniques, alcohol, and
coffee.
Over 99% of ingested
inositol is absorbed by
the body. However,
absorption is slow. It
is catabolised in the
kidneys, where it is
converted to glucose.
Inositol is essential
for the transportation
of fat in the body. Like
choline, it has been
found important in
providing nourishment to
the brain cells. It
helps lower cholesterol
levels. Inositol also
promotes the growth of
healthy hair and
helps to prevent its
falling out. It helps in
preventing eczema.
|
How do you know if
you need more Inositol?
|
According to experts,
the deficiency of
inositol can cause
alopecia (hair
loss) or patchy
baldness, gastritis
(inflammation of the
lining of the stomach),
hypertension, fatty
infiltration in the
liver, hardening of the
liver, and
eczema. If you have
any of these symptoms,
you may need more
inositol.
|
How much
Inositol do you
need?
|
|
It is
impossible for anyone to
tell you how much of any
particular vitamin you
need. We have read many
articles and reports on
this subject and no two
are alike. There are too
many variables involved.
Your age, your height
and weight, your health
and lifestyle, etc. The
best way for you to
decide which supplements
you need is to read
these pages and make
note of any health
problems you may be
having which could be
associated with a
vitamin deficiency. Then
start taking a small
dose. If your symptoms
don't go away after a
week or two, increase
your dosage. Continue
this until your symptoms
are relieved and stay
with that dosage.
Guideline is for a 150
pound adult:
- Men: 500 mg -
650 mg. Best if
taken with
Choline.
- Women: 500 mg. Best
if taken with
Choline.
Always consult your
doctor or midwife during
pregnancy and lactation.
Always start small
and work your way up, if
needed. Please be
careful when dealing
with fat soluble
vitamins as your body
retains these for
extended periods of
time. It is possible to
take to much of these
types of vitamins.

How to get enough
Inositol?
|
Eating
a variety of foods that
contain Inositol
is the best way to get
an adequate amount.
Healthy individuals who
eat a balanced diet
rarely need supplements.
Select foods that
contain excellent to
good sources of
Inositol each day.
Such as the following:
|
brewer's
yeast |
cabbage |
peanuts |
molasses |
Beef heart |
|
Nuts |
grapefruit |
Brown rice |
Liver |
Wheat germ |
|
Bananas |
Oat flakes |
raisins |
beef brain |
lima beans |
If
you eat an abundant
quantity of the
above foods, you
will not have to
worry about
supplementing your
diet with extra
Inositol. If you
don't eat much of
the above foods, you
might consider
adding a supplement.
