What is the
importance of
vitamins ?
|
Some
people believe eating a
healthy diet is enough.
As long as you follow
the "food pyramid" you
will be OK. This would
be true if the food
pyramid and our
government were actually
concerned in your
health.Have you ever
noticed, we know you
have, that the health
information we receive
from our government
changes a lot? Why is
this? It all depends on
which company has the
best lobbyists, how much
money changes the right
hands and who is in
office at the time.
So is beef good for
you or not? What about
coffee, eggs, fats in
foods, carbohydrates?
We don't plan to get
into the middle of those
arguments, we just want
to point out to you that
you can't rely on what
you see on the nightly
news to stay healthy.
You are the only person
who can decide which
foods are working well
with your body.
Everything in
moderation....
So back to vitamins.
The minimum daily
requirements are just
that, minimum! They are
what you need to stay
alive, not healthy. Read
RDA for more on that
subject.

How much of each
vitamin do you
need?

We have
tried to list the
US-RDA for each
vitamin. Please keep in
mind that these are
minimums. In most cases,
you will need much more
than this minimum. We
suggest that you do two
things.
- First, read
about the foods that
are rich in the
vitamins you are
looking at. If you
eat a lot of these
foods, chances are
you won't need to
supplements as much
of that particular
vitamin.
- Second, start
small and build. If
you feel you need
more vitamin C in
your life, start
with a small dose
and see how you
feel. Wait for a
couple weeks, if you
feel you need more,
add a little more
until you get to the
amount you need and
then use that amount
everyday.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Fat soluble vitamins do
not leave your body if
you take too much. It is
possible to overdose on
fat soluble vitamins
and become very ill.
Please watch dosages
carefully. Never give
children fat soluble
vitamins unless he
or she has a specific
health need and your
natural health care
practitioner recommends
it.

How to get enough
vitamins?
|
Try to
eat as many fresh fruits
and vegetables as
possible. Organic is
always best. These are
grown without added
chemicals. They are
grown in organically
fortified soil and
therefore much more
nutritious. Fresh fish
is also important for
good nutrition. Can't
get fresh fish? Frozen
is good too, not breaded
and deep fried.
If
you eat an abundant
quantity of quality,
organic foods, you
will not have to
worry about
supplementing your
diet with a lot of
extra Vitamins.
If you don't eat
much of the right
foods, you should
consider adding a
supplement.
